"We are a dedicated cricktet club based out of Gothenburg, Sweden"

History

GCC was formed in 1970 by mostly expatriates working for Volvo consisting mostly of English and few Australians. GCC have played in many different locations like, Utby,(not very far from Kviberg,) Valhalla ,and many other fields/football grounds around Gothenburg. In those days, a coir matting was placed directly on grass, except Valhalla where they played directly on artificial turf. At the end of 70s, when Torslanda airport closed down and shifted to Landvetter, GCC got a permanent full size ground with a proper pitch at Torslanda in the middle of 2 landing strips.

In those days, we cut the grass and maintained the pitch without any support from anywhere. It took at least an hour to water and roll the pitch before fixing the matting.

It was the best pitch and ground in Sweden at the time. They even had a cemented extra pitch and nets for training. In end of 80s most expatriates working for Volvo left the country and students from Chalmers and others joined and GCC survived. In those days, getting a full team was a struggle. Ultimately in late 90s GCC lost the ground at Torslanda due to expansion of Golf club. For a few years in the beginning of 2000, Sr cricket came to a standstill and GCC started all over again with youngsters age group 10-14/15. When most of these youngsters finished Gymnasium and moved on for further studies out of town, and thanks to influx of Chalmers students and others, GCC was again revived and started playing Sr cricket. and in SCF league. Today GCC is very proud to have 3 Men's team playing in different division, Allsvenskan being the highest. One Women's team and one Under 19 and one Under 15 team.
